The wellbeing of children sits at the centre of the work at Canberra Primary School and Nursery Class says Education Scotland.
Following a visit by inspectors an HMIe report into the East Kilbride school highlighted the “effective whole school approach to supporting and developing wellbeing” to improve pupil outcomes in the school and nursery.
Pupils were also making very good progress with literacy and numeracy thanks to the school’s reading buddies initiative.
And the inspectors also said that the strong, authentic leadership of the head teacher has created a culture of respect and belonging for all. And developing leadership in others is also evident in all aspects of school life.
Head Teacher Angela Heasman, said: " I am so proud of our school community who have worked tirelessly to ensure our school is the best that it can be, providing our children with high quality learning experiences and opportunities to shine.
“The superb report we received from HMIe is testament to the creativity and innovation of staff, the can-do attitude of our children and the support of our families."
The inspection team also noted that the sense of belonging leads to a calm, purposeful learning environment where children are eager to learn.
And nursery pupils are motivated and engage very well with the facilities at the school which helps with their creativity.
As well as the effective leadership, all pupils are given the opportunity to influence changes in their school which leads to the school community as a whole wanting to improve.
The school staff will now be working on further developing their understanding of high-quality learning, teaching and assessment to check children’s progress in other areas of the curriculum alongside its very good literacy and numeracy achievements.
Carole McKenzie, the council’s Executive Director of Education, said: “Congratulations to Angela Heasman and her team for an overwhelmingly positive report.
“The inspector’s rated the school as very good across almost all the evaluation criteria that they assess our schools.
“Everyone in the school community should be very proud of such a great report from Education Scotland.”
